Kristen Butts’ ability to address design challenges with innovative solutions drives the success of many of Altieri’s complex multi-program projects.
Kristen joined Altieri in 2006 upon completing her studies in mechanical and architectural engineering. She is an exceptionally talented leader who emphasizes partnership, open communication, and a shared commitment to achieving the architect’s vision. Kristen’s design work and leadership on the Virginia Commonwealth University CoStar Center for Arts and Innovation project exemplify her creative approach. She went beyond the standard design for a smoke purge system, supporting her team by developing an intricate solution that fits within a 200,000+ SF, 9-story building with a complex AHU distribution driven by varying space demands. This work reflects Kristen’s ability to lead complex design efforts with clarity and precision, consistently delivering innovative, high-performing solutions that align with both technical requirements and ambitious design visions.
Since 2018, Kristen has taught a course on systems integration at Yale University’s Graduate School of Architecture. She is also a member of ASHRAE and the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM).
