Building Connections and Confidence at the Women Who Build Summit

Womengineer Building Connections And Confidence Women Who Build Summit

The Women Who Build Summit is an annual event focused on supporting and advancing women in the architecture, engineering, construction, and design industries. Organized by The Construction Institute, the summit brings professionals together for discussions centered on leadership development, mentorship, diversity, innovation, and career growth in the built environment. The event aims to foster a strong professional community, elevate women’s voices in traditionally male-dominated fields, and inspire the next generation of industry leaders.

Altieri engineers, Kate Eldridge, PE, LEED AP BD+C and Angelica Hermanto, PE, LC, LEED AP, attended this year’s Women Who Build Summit at UMass Amherst. It was Kate’s first time attending the conference and we were interested in her impressions:

I recommend the Women Who Build Summit 100%. There were meaningful discussions about confidence, women’s experiences in the industry, and how much we all have in common. Some major takeaways for me were not to lose sight of the many shared experiences and the hope that maybe in ten years, it won’t be ‘Women Who Build,’ but simply, ‘We Build.’ I also enjoyed learning about the Boston Museum of Science’s Blue Wing project. The construction was fascinating; the team had to be incredibly creative with the design.

There was plenty of time to network at the summit as well. Kate and Angelica connected with a group of women from Perkins&Will. Their conversations sparked ideas for bringing Altieri’s Women in Engineering group together with the women at Perkins&Will to build connections and foster future collaboration.
