Altieri staff attended the topping out ceremony for The Goel Center for Creativity & Performance at Harvard University’s Allston campus. Attending these ceremonies is always a special experience for the team that has (and will continue to) put a lot of hard work into ensuring the building systems are designed the best way possible. Alongside other members of the design team – Haworth Tompkins (Design Architect), ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge (Architect of Record), Charcoalblue (Theatre Consultant), Shawmut Design and Construction (Construction Manager),and LeMessurier (Structural Engineer) – Altieri signed the final cross-laminated timber beam and watched as it was placed on the building.
With sustainability in mind, The Goel Center was constructed with laminate mass timber, reclaimed brick, and cedar cladding. The building is also targeting LEED Gold and the Living Building Challenge core accreditation. The new building will be a state-of-the-art research, learning, and performance center featuring teaching and performance spaces to accommodate small productions and large-scale events.
The topping off ceremony was a critical milestone in what has been a long collaborative process thus far, and we were thrilled to celebrate this with the design team and construction crews.
