Work Alongside Experienced Engineers and Leaders Who Are Committed to Helping You Grow.

As an Altieri Summer Intern, you will work with talented mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage professionals who will help you excel. Our Summer Internship Program delivers “real world” project experience that accelerates your development, while a collaborative, fast-paced, and fun environment makes every day engaging. If you’re driven, curious, and ready to make an impact, Altieri is the place to start—and grow—your career!

“For one of the larger projects, Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington DC, I studied an existing HVAC system in an underground collection vault to determine its effect on Altieri’s design for a new clean agent fire suppression system. My work is contributing to systems that will protect valuable documents if there is ever a fire. The hands-on design experience is a challenge that is supplemented with direct guidance, giving me the confidence to succeed. I even used the technical information I learned at Altieri last summer to inspire my senior thesis, applying MEP principles to my school’s new campus addition.”

A Day in the Life of an Altieri Summer Intern

Day In The Life Of Intern
While reviewing project documents, Senior Plumbing Designer, Nona Rudd, shares career tips with 2025 summer intern, Lauren Ciuffetelli.

“Nona suggested working in a wastewater treatment or public facility to gain first-hand experience with plumbing systems in action. She found this experience helpful in understanding what she was designing and how plumbing systems worked.”

In addition to meaningful project work, Altieri summer interns get to know Altieri by job-shadowing, attending firm meetings, and participating in Initiative Team and Employee Resource Group activities. You will have a mentor throughout the summer, enjoy social events, and discover what a Lunch and Learn is all about. Expect a fast-paced, rigorous summer filled with real-world experience.

High school senior, Margaret Mannella, receives The John L. Altieri Memorial Scholarship from Principal, Kari Nystrom before she knew about Altieri Summer Intern Program.

“I was the first recipient of the John L. Altieri Memorial Scholarship in 2022. I interned at Altieri after my freshman year at the University of Connecticut and returned this summer to build on the foundation I had established in 2023. Every person I worked with taught me something new, ranging from a concept on electrical systems to a small shortcut in Autodesk Revit. The direct guidance I received from multiple mentors allowed me to become more confident and comfortable in my work. [The Altieri Summer Internship] showed me the importance of experience in the engineering field; I know I can read all the textbooks in the world, but arguably the most valuable part of learning is how theories apply to real world applications. It also taught me the value of teamwork and collaboration.”
