The New York Historical Topping Out Ceremony

New York Historical Topping Out

The Altieri team had the privilege of attending the topping out ceremony for The New York Historical Tang Wing for American Democracy. The team listened to speakers from The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and the American LGBTQ+ Museum, signed the final beam, and watched as the beam was placed at the top of the building. It was a momentous occasion, marking a significant milestone in the construction of this historic building. They also toured the building to see the progress of their hard work and dedication to this project.

Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the four-story, 70,000 SF addition will include new gallery spaces, classrooms, an outdoor courtyard, and a rooftop garden. It will also be home to the American LQBTQ+ Museum, Academy for American Democracy, and a compact storage facility for the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library collection. The new wing is expected to open in 2026.

A fun event that was inspiring. Inspiring for the courage of those standing up for their cause, for being able to witness the results of their actions, and for the generosity of the Tang family for donating to make the result happen.
